The idea for “Bosnian Born” began with Sejla Holland, a Bosnian refugee who is currently an art gallery owner in California. Holland wanted to produce an event that would not evoke images often associated with her homeland – war, death, destruction and ethnic cleansing. Instead, Holland wanted to highlight the qualities of Bosnian people that are often lost to the media – creativity, artistry, talent and perseverance. Holland presented the idea to a few Bosnian artist friends and soon “Bosnian Born” was created – an exhibit of nearly 50 pieces including photography, fashion design, sculpture, graphic design, and contemporary art from artists that belong to various ethnic groups.
“Bosnian Born” premiered in Holland’s San Diego gallery in May 2012, and was shown inBoston in December of last year. The artwork pieces are for sale, with proceeds partially benefiting the Bosana Foundation – a charity that provides scholarships to Bosnian war orphans.
B-Heart focuses on issues and supports projects important to Bosnian women and families and the group strives to sustain and promote Bosnian heritage and culture in the United States.
